Sopore, April 11 : Around 50 persons sofar have been detained over the charge of violating the norms issued by Government of India amid this COVID-19 scare in north Kashmir’s Sopore town.

These arrests came in being after people of Zaingeer belt violated the norms and instructions given by Administration and Sopore police over the religious virtuals of slain militant Sajad Nawab Dar of Sadipora who was killed in a gunfight on Wednesday.

Scores of people participated in the last rites of slain militant which was against the procedural protocol of World Health Organization (WHO) (Social Distancing, Avoid Public Gatherings) in a view of rapid growth of COVID-19 threat.

However, Jammu and Kashmir have already recorded 224 positive cases of COVID-19 sofar and 4 people also lost their battle with life because of this virus.

Police while taking cognizance of the violation of norms, registered a case FIR No. 70/2020 US 188 IPC and started investigation into this matter.

A police officer while talking with Kashmir Despatch said sofar we have nabbed 50 number locals who took part in militant’s funeral and violated norms which were issued by Government of India. Officer said before handed over the coffin to the family we requested them and even instructed them not to allow locals for last rites as COVID-19 threat is yet to over, however locals had participated in huge numbers which not only dis-obeyed the orders but also created a panic like situation across the town by keeping an eye over COVID-19 threat and protocol social distancing and avoiding of public gatherings which was issued by WHO few months back. Officer said detained ones once go through screening and post that will be dealt as per law and many more arrests are yet to come who violated the norms.
