GANDERBAL, AUGUST 22: To have a firsthand appraisal about the arrangements being put in place for smooth observance of Muharram, the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal today visited several Shia dominated areas of the district to inspect the Muharram arrangements being put in place by the concerned department there.

During the day long tour, the DC visited Dub, Kullan and Neelgrath, Sonamarg where he interacted with the representatives of Shia communities of these areas and stressed for adherence of laid down SOPs related to COVID-19 pandemic during the Muharram days so that risk of infection is mitigated.

The DC was accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmad Baba, SDM Kangan, CMO, Executive Engineers of PDD, R&B and PHE, DFO Sind Forest Division, AD Food and other concerned.

On the occasion, the DC took stock of arrangements being put in place by the concerned departments. He assessed the arrangements including Health care, electricity, fire wood, street lights, sanitation, fumigation, macadamization of inner roads leading to Imambaras, availability of ration, K-oil etc.

During the visit, the DC directed all the concerned officers to ensure effective management of power supply, sanitation, water supply, ration & fumigation of Imambads and Mosques in the area of district which are inhabited by Shia population.

The local Committees also raised several issues pertaining to damaged street light, regular fumigation during Muharram days, cleanliness around Imamabad’s and Mosques, etc. for which the DC directed the concerned authorities to provide electric poles, replace damaged street lights and install new street lights so that the mourners will not suffer during their night movements. He instructed the Municipal Council officials to ensure cleanliness and fumigation around Imambads and Masjids in their jurisdiction besides CEO SDA was instructed to carry fumigation drive in Kullan and Neelgrath Imambads.
