A civilian was killed during clashes between protestors and government forces in Pinjoora village of Shopian district amid cordon and search operation in the village.

Reports said that a joint team of forces had laid a cordon in Gugloora area of Pinjoora village, soon after the siege, clashes ensued as youth pelted stones on the government forces. the clashes resulted in the death of a civilian identified as Sajad Ahmad Parray, a resident of Baderhama. Parray received a bullet injury and was soon taken to district hospital Shopian where he succumbed to his injuries.

Besides Parray, a civilian identified as Mohammad Shafi Malik also received a bullet injury. A girl was hit by pellets on her face and another youth was also received a bullet injury. The injured persons were later shifted to the district hospital for the treatment.

Earlier, gunshots were heard in Pinjoora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday during a search operation launched by a mixed contingent of police, army and the paramilitary forces. The CASO soon turned into a gunfight after a joint team of forces including army, police and paramilitary men launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the village.

As the forces approached the spot hiding militants started firing ensuing an encounter.
