Rajouri, Oct 2, 2020: To celebrate the 151st birth anniversary of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi ,  Baba Ghulam Shah University (BGSBU) organized an  International webinar on “Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in Contemporary Scenario: Global Peace” here today.
Prof. Javed Musarrat, Vice Chancellor of BGSBU inaugurated the webinar. Paying rich tribute to the father of nation, Prof. Musarrat said that Gandhi ji showed the path of truth and non-violence to the entire world and became an inspiration for others.  Prof. Musarrat emphasized that Gandhi Ji’s philosophy of ahimsa, truth and love are the three things that will help us live a peaceful and a better life. He said that Gandhian principles of truth and non-violence will continue to guide the world leaders to make this planet a better place to live. Prof. Musarrat said that Gandhi Ji’s Principles of Peace and selfless service to humanity are most relevant in these times of pandemic.
Eminent Gandhians, Christian Bartolf, President of Gandhi Information Centre, Berlin Germany and Prof. Vidya Jain, former Director Gandhian Studies, University of Rajasthan were resource persons on occasion.
Christian Bartolf spoke at length about vision and role Mahatma Gandhi played in gaining Indian freedom through nonviolent resistance.  He emphasized upon the young minds to reading literature about Mahatma Gandhi and people who championed nonviolence resistance and proved that it is mightier than mightiest weapons of violence.
Prof. Vidya Jain  in her address spoke on  women rights, equality, justice, kindness, and compassion endowed by Gandhian philosophy. She underlined the need of caring for Mother Nature which was so close to Mahatma Gandhi and his entire ideals.
Dr. Ashaq Malik, noted peace activist, said that Mahatma Gandhi’s Philosophy is an accumulation of wisdom from different sources placed at one place, if followed sincerely by individuals it could make our world a better place to live for everyone.
Dr. Danish Iqbal Raina, Convener of the webinar, welcomed the guests and conducted proceedings of the programme. Earlier in the day Swachhta pledge was also organised in the university campus.Prominent among others present on the occasions were Prof. GM Malik , Prof. Naseem Ahmed and Prof. Asif Hussain. More than 200 participants form various universities and institutes both within the country and abroad registered for the webinar.
