Bandipora, Oct 06: Captain Vishal Bhandral memorial Volleyball premier league commenced on Tuesday in Bapura village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The league is being organised by Army’s 14 RR Unit at Bapura army camp. 

An official spokesman said that in an effort to integrate the local youth with mainstream and to promote sports amongst the local populace, Bandipora Rashtriya Rifles is organising the Volley Ball tournament. 

He said that a total of twenty teams from all over Bandipora are participating in the competition. 

“The tournament is planned into two phases. The initial phase is the knock out stage and in second stage top ten teams will be divided into two pools and will compete for the winning trophy.”

He said that the tournament started on today and four matches were conducted on the first day. The first match was played between Red Rose C A Khan Vs Arin A in which team Red Rose  emerged as winner. 

“In the second match Bapura Warriors defeated Nadihal United and third match was played between Arin Kharpura and Ali Sports Garoora in which Ali Sports Garoora emerged victorious. Day’s last match was played between Hassan Sport Bapura and Nadihal United A which was won by Nadihal United A.”

The official said that all teams exhibited tremendous enthusiasm and competitive spirit. 

He further said that the occasion was graced by the Village Heads, Sarpanches and Panches including local populace, who witnessed the fiercely contested matches with great enthusiasm. 

“The efforts of Army for organizing such a huge event was  appreciated by everyone and it seems to have become the talk of the town.” he said.
