Srinagar, Oct 08, KDC: Casual laborers of Tourism department on Thursday staged a protest in front of Directorate of Tourism office in Srinagar.

Dozens of casual laborers working in Tourism Department assembled at its head office in Srinagar and staged a protest demonstration, under the banner of Kashmir Tourism Department Casual Laborers Union.

The protesting employees were chanting slogans against the authorities for ignoring their plight due to the haltage of their wages, since last many years.

One of the protestor while talking to news agency KDC said that the Tourism Department has failed to release their pending wages since July 2014, due to which they and their families are facing tremendous hardships.

“Every year the Department frames a budget, but unfortunately our salaries are not included in it,” he said.

“We are being sidelined in the said budget by the Director while as the casual laborers from Jammu enjoy all the benefits,” he alleged.

They demanded that their genuine demands should be looked into and the Department should release their pending wages, and they should also be considered in the upcoming budget for the financial year 2020-21. (KDC)
