Countdown for SMC’s new Mayor post begins

Srinagar, Nov 20: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is all set to elect its new Mayor after remaining vacant for more than five months.

Commissioner SMC, Gazanfar Ali told Rising Kashmir that all preparations have been finalised and elections will take place on November 25.

“The nomination papers for the post of ‘Mayor’ will be available in SMC from 20 November till 4 pm on 21 November,” he said.

Commissioner said candidates can withdraw their nomination from the election before 25 November.

“The voting will take place on 25th November at 11:00 AM onwards,” he said.

On July 15, the government deferred elections by more than months.

Earlier on June 16, Junaid Azim Mattu was removed as Mayor of the SMC 1 after a no-confidence motion against him was passed by the general council of the corporation.
