Casual laborers working in Ganderbal forest nursery demand regularization of services

Ganderbal, Sep 10 (KNO): Dozens of casual laborers who work day night on a meager salary at forest nursery in Ziripora area of Kullan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal have demanded regularisation of their services.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the casual laborers said that they have been working in the department for the last more than 10 years on a meager salary.
“For the last several years we have been demanding regularization of our services but the authorities don’t seem to be bothered about our sufferings,” they said.
They said that they have been working day and night and their efforts and hard work are continuously neglected as they have been waiting for regularisation and salary for years now.
They said that they have been taking care of the saplings at forest nursery Ziripora even during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, their services have been neglected by the concerned department.
“There are around 80 thousand saplings in the nursery and it is because of our hard work that these saplings are alive in this nursery,” they said.
Shabir Ahmad, casual labor said that they have been working tirelessly but their services are not being regularized despite promises by the higher-ups.
They appealed to the Lt. Governor to personally look into the matter and regularise their services.
Owais Farooq Mir, divisional Forest officer Ganderbal acknowledged that despite difficulties these casual labourers continued their good work even during the lockdown as without them the forest nursery Ziripora wouldn’t have been in this form today.
“Nursery needs care in its early stage as child needs and it was possible only due to the efforts of casual laborers,” he said.
He said that they have already forwarded their documents to the higher-ups and recommended them for regularisation keeping in view their hard work—(KNO)
