Christmas celebrated across J&K

Srinagar, Dec 25: Christmas, the birthday of Jesus Christ (AS), was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

Devotees thronged the churches to offer special prayers.

The churches in Kashmir were decked with Christmas trees.The number of devotees attending night prayers was limited this year due to pandemic.

However, special prayers were held in churches in Srinagar and other places on Friday under due observance of COVID19 safety guidelines.

The main prayer meeting was held at Holy Family Catholic Church at MA
Road in which devotees including women and children participated.

Prayers were also held at Saint Luke’s Church and All Saints’ Church in Srinagar, Saint Joseph’s Church in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the
oldest Catholic Church in Jammu and Kashmir and at a Church at the tourist
resort of Gulmarg.

Donning the traditional red attire, Santa Clause made the children happy
by distributing candies and toys among them. Director Tourism Kashmir Nisar Wani told Greater Kashmir that the Tourism Department organized a number of programs at Gulmarg last evening.

“The department organised special programmes. Illumination, musical events were part of the occasion,” Wani said.

He informed that a day before, a mega event was also

held at SKICC which was decorated with Merry Christmas

themed buntings, flags, balloons and various kinds of ban-

ners giving a festive look on the occasion.

“On Friday evening, a special event was also organized

at TRC Srinagar. It was a prayer and cake cutting pro-

gramme. Large number of people participated in it,” he

said.

Sources from Jammu said that the festival was celebrat-

ed with religious fervour while authorities also organised

special programmes and events for Christmas celebration

eve.
