Srinagar, June 28 (GNS): Residents of Fazal Haq Colony Zakura here on Sunday demand potable water supply which according to them has been denied to them at the behest of some influential people in their vicinity.
“We are facing tremendous hardships due to absence of potable water which is denied due to political and bureaucratic influence,” the residents said, adding, “There is a PHE water pipe upto petrol pump area but the connections have been barred beyond it at the behest of some influential people. Our colony is situated just few meters from the main point but potable water supply is denied to us.”
They have urged higher authorities to intervene to what they described as a humanitarian issue. “Water is life and denying it at the behest of these influential people is injustice,” they said. They said that all formalities stand completed including authorization by the concerned authorities.
“The pretext used by the concerned authorities is that the R&B authorities are not allowing the digging of the road for laying the pipes. How can any department do it at the expenses of human life? This is a humanitarian issue which needs to be addressed without any delay.” The locals did not block road but registered their protest without hindrance to public transport. “We don’t want to trouble anyone and as such we assembled peacefully to attract the attention of the higher authorities who we are confident will not disappoint us,” they added. Despite repeated attempts, the concerned Assistant Executive Engineer R&B could not be contacted for comments for refusing to allow digging of the ‘rough’ road for laying the water pipes. (GNS)
