UG 5th Sem students demand online exams

The students of various colleges affiliated with University of Kashmir on Friday urged the admin to conduct their examinations in online mode due to the prevailing situation.

While talking to Good Morning Kashmir, the students said that due to lack of regular classes, and ban on high speed internet service since very long time, they haven’t been able to fully concentrate on their studies.

Saahil Bashier And Shahid Dar, 5th semester student at Govt Degree College Baramulla, said, “There is a lot of difference between online and offline exams. Amid global pandemic disease (Covid19) and frequent internet shutdowns, we hardly managed to complete on an average 40% percent of the syllabus. As per notification Kashmir University’s decision of taking exams in offline mode on given time is shocking. We are demanding syllabus reduction for the scheduled semester examination or change the mode of examination to online.”

Yamin Mir, 5th semester student at Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar, said, “With the current pandemic crisis and frequent lockdowns we had not any offline classes pertaining to 5th semester. Infact there was no provision of online classes and as such we haven’t studied anything. The KU authorities are aware of the situation and still are adamant on conducting the offline examination, which in turn would ensure that the students will suffer and are bound to fail. We request the authorities to reconsider this decision and defer the examination, besides providing atleast online classes.”

“Classes of 5th semester Batch 2018 were started two months before and online classes are not administering properly due to very low-speed internet connection and this is unthinkable for a student to complete the gross syllabus of the semester, this is the reason students are not prepared for the examination and we don’t want to ruin one more precious year. Our demand is genuine and clear that our syllabus shall be halved, change into an objective pattern or our examinations should be held in online mode.” said another student.

Examination Controller Examination, Kashmir University didn’t received call from this reporter despite many attempts.
